The City of Hammond’s annual Festival of the Lakes will run Wednesday, July 17, through Sunday, July 21. The festival will feature free nightly live entertainment, carnival rides, a 5k, car show, golf scramble and fishing derby.
Chalk the Walk, a Family & Youth Services Event, went off with out a hitch despite the threat of rain all day. Artists came ready with ideas in mind for their 3 foot by 3 foot space to beautifully adorn the sidewalks along the downtown square of the Porter County Courthouse. There was even a section set aside for families that came to view all the artwork so that their little artists could draw with chalk too.

For about 30 years, the Portage Township YMCA has taken a large interest in providing their community with an exciting summer day camp program. C.C. Cayetano, School Age Child Care Coordinator (SACC) for the Y, heads all activities and developmental operations for campers along with her dedicated staff.
“As a whole, we saw that children also needed care outside regular school time. They still needed care during the summer months so we brought on summer camp. It’s been taking place in the Portage High School for a couple years and we really enjoy the area they give to us,” Cayetano said.

With the addition of several hours worth of NPR’s flagship morning and afternoon drive programs “Morning Edition” and “All Things Considered” to its weekday schedule, The Lakeshore will now offer a full-fledged schedule of NPR’s most popular and durable shows. “Morning Edition” —which previously aired weekdays from 4:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m.—will now continue until 9:00 a.m. NPR’s afternoon news magazine, “All Things Considered,” will now air weekdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
