M.I.S. S.T.A.N.D. Club Inspires Kindness amid Tragedy

M_I_S__S_T_A_N_D__Club_Inspires_Kindness-1---2017-09-22_18_55_56Sponsors, Shannon Hedrick and Brooke Shelton-James, and members of the S.T.A.N.D. Club inspired the students at Merrillville Intermediate School to give back through a penny war fundraiser, where the students competed to collect the most pennies. The money raised was for the victims of the recent hurricanes that ravaged parts of Texas and Florida. Prior to beginning the penny wars, students watched videos of the devastation caused by the hurricanes, which encouraged them to bring in any loose change they had in an effort to give back to those in need.

Porter Regional Hospital Employees Raise Funds and Awareness for American Heart Association at 2017 Heart Walk


Hundreds of heart disease survivors, patients, community members, and Porter Regional Hospital employees raised $42,943 for the American Heart Association at the annual Northwest Indiana Heart Walk. And this is just the amount raised so far; dollars continue to roll in from hospital team activities.

Sebo’s Nursing Rehabilitation Center Helping Hands

Emails were sent, calls were made. Finally we got the news that a friend of our HR Director is part of the NWI Truck Club. They are a group of locals who take their own trucks and trailers down to places in need. They have helped out at other disaster times, such as doing a water run to Flint Michigan. Once we were on board with their group our team sprung into action! Flyers were posted, Facebook notifications were sent and the collection began.

On Tuesday morning, Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa gathered representatives from Porter-Starke Services, La Porte Veterans Court and Housing Opportunities to present checks for their respective organization’s programs that help advocate on behalf of veterans in the area. Operation Combat Bikesaver and Empowering Patriots were also presented with donations but were unable to attend the day’s event.

Hospice of the Calumet Area Brings Lake County Community Together at Annual Hospice Hustle

Early Sunday morning, over 200 eager cyclists gathered at the Lake County Fairgrounds for the Hospice of the Calumet Area’s annual Hospice Hustle. The Hustle is one of the Hospice of the Calumet Area’s (HCA) flagship events; it allows cyclists to do either a 25, 62, or 100 mile peaceful bike ride across rural southern Lake County. It is an event that unites a close knit enthusiast community in the Region, all while raising money to support the HCA’s mission to cherish life.
